Dr Paul Nevitt

VP Science and Technology
Dr. Paul Nevitt is the Science and Technology Director for the UK National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL). Paul is responsible for definition and delivery of the science and technology agenda across the four focus areas within the laboratory of Clean Energy, Environmental Restoration, Health and Nuclear Medicine and Security and Non-Proliferation.

Director of Strategy and Innovation
José is responsible for strategy development, innovation, sustainability and lean performance improvement. He has held a number of senior strategy, innovation and commercial roles within the energy sector, for E.ON, Centrica and United Utilities. José has established new functions, driven growth, launched ventures, and led mergers and acquisitions.
Our Strategic Advisory Group:
Representing some of the brightest minds in the energy sector, our Strategic Advisory Group includes our members, strategic research advisors and independent energy system experts. The SAG co-develop the R&D programme that the Nexus delivers.

Iain Darby
UK National Nuclear Laboratory
Head of Strategic Research
Iain Darby is a physicist with extensive experience in nuclear research and development. He currently serves as the Head of Strategic Research at the National Nuclear Laboratory, a position he has held since May 2023. In this role, Iain oversees strategic research initiatives within the nuclear sector, shaping the future of the industry.
Iain is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Glasgow, where he has contributed to nuclear research since 2018. He served as Co-Chair of the Nuclear Waste & Decommissioning Research Forum from 2021 to 2023.

Marzia Zafar

Deputy Director of Governance for Data & Digitalisation
Marzia Zafar leads the Strategic Innovation Fund, a £450 million initiative that funds innovations aimed at advancing the UK's energy system to Net Zero.
Alongside her work at Ofgem, Marzia serves as a Non-Executive Board Member at Harworth Group, one of the leading land and property regeneration companies in the UK.
She is also an Advisory Board Member at National Grid ESO, helping inform strategic energy market design in Great Britain.
